Resistor

1. Resistor

Type of resistor

Resistor Symbaol

  • Unit in Ohm (Ω)
  • R1, is the normal resistor, while 10k is it's value.
  • PR1, The one with arrow is called: Potentiometer 可变电阻 / 电位器
  • For PCB we use SMD Resistor instead of normal resistor. SMD Resistor

Value reading of resistor

a. Normal Resistor

Value Reading of Resistor

INFO

  • Red = 2
  • Red = 2
  • Black = ×1 (multiplier)
  • Gold = ±5% (tolerance)
22 × 1 = 22 Ω ±5% Resistor

  • Yellow = 4
  • Purple = 7
  • Black = 0
  • Gold = 0.1 (multiplier)
  • Brown = ±1% (tolerance)
470 x 0.1 = 470 Ω ±1% Resistor
  • Gold and Silver ring will never be the first reading.

b. SMD Resistor

SMD Resistor Value

  1. 3 Digit Reading ±5% (tolerance)
  • First 2 Digit means the effective value
  • Last Digit means 10^n
  • ±5% (tolerance)

Example Resistor:

104

Value:

10 * 10^4 = 100,000Ω (100kΩ) ±5% (tolerance)

  1. 4 Digit Reading ±1% (tolerance)
  • First 3 Digit means the effective value
  • Last Digit means 10^n
  • ±1% (tolerance)

Example Resistor:

5112

Value:

511 x 10^2 = 51,100Ω (51.1kΩ) ±1% (tolerance)

  1. SMD Resistor with R

R means 0.x

Example Resistor:

R010

Value:

0.01Ω
